Today we are wishing a happy birthday to our favorite...

It was going to be a beach day...
but we got rained out.

It was supposed to be a pirate ship cake... but we got hit by the cannonball of heat and humidity.
(click on the picture to see it big.. it really is more of a shipwreck cake!)

And yet Harrison, true to form, doesn't mind at all.
Today is the perfect day, no matter what it involves.

His friends are here... they camped out in the backyard last night, creating boy memories. Today is filled with legos and video games and salsa and a trip to the movie theatre where three giant buckets of popcorn are consumed.

"what do you want to do for your birthday with your family tonight darling?... remember, this is your day, choose anything you want."

"Mom, what I really want is for us all to

roll our own sushi at home

and then play a board game all together."

To my Harrison who thinks deeply and lives lightly.
You are my son of imagination and invention and story telling.
My lego building, skateboard dreaming, comic drawing friend.
May you continue to know your value... and to share value with the people in your life...
may your dreams stretch you while leaving space for the magic and mystery of God...
and may your room never be too messy to let your mom in.
